Outdoor Adventure Club Kayak Trip to View Herons

Kayak Trip to view Herons
he herons are coming! The herons are coming!

Spring is definitely in the air and the great blue herons are nesting. The Outdoor Adventure Club is planning a kayak outing to observe this fascinating part of nature on Saturday, April 22, 2017. We will leave at 10am from the Buffalo Creek public ramp located at the end of Barksdale Ferry Road in the Monticello neighborhood. The plan is to paddle across the river to the rookery. Ooooh and ahhhh as the herons put on their amazing show and then either paddle up the river to observe, from a safe distance, the construction of the new 378 bridge, or simply paddle around the area and then back to the ramp. Paddler's choice. Those of you who don't own kayaks could rent one from the Recreation Center. You will need a way to transport it to the launch site.Call the RC (391-4180) for information about renting. Everyone must have life jackets and whistles. You might also want to bring water and a snack. Please let me know if you'd like to join us so we don't leave anyone behind.Feel free to contact Gloria Bramble 391-5996
