Kayak the Augusta Canal

Wednesday, September 13, 2017

The Savannah Lakes Village Outdoor Adventure Club will be kayaking down the Augusta Canal on Wednesday, September 13, 2017.

Our paddle will start at the Savannah River Rapids (Savannah Rapids) and end at Lake Olmstead. We will be on the water about 2 hours. We do not paddle through any rapids. The trip is for all levels of expertise. From there we will be transported back to the Rapids where we will picnic.

Kayak rental from the Savannah Rapids is: $22.50 for a single kayak and $35.00 for a tandem kayak. The majority of their kayaks are the sit upon kind; however they do have some sit in types also, plus the tandems. Rental includes the kayak, a paddle, life jacket, a whistle and transportation back to the Savannah Rapids.

Yes, you may use your own kayak. If you use your own, you are responsible for getting it into the canal yourself. There will be a $7.50 charge for your transportation back to the Savannah Rapids (includes your kayak and yourself).

We will depart from the SLV Recreation Center at 9:15 a.m. Everyone is reminded to bring sunscreen, water/drinks, a hat, your I.D., a snack and your picnic lunch. Also bring a life preserver and a whistle if you are using your own kayak.

Please respond by September 6. To sign up, or if you have questions, please email Judy Lorier at Include your name, your phone number and state if you want to rent a kayak from the Savannah Rapids - single or double, or taking your own.

If there is inclement weather and the trip needs to be cancelled, those signed up will be notified the evening before. If it needs to be cancelled, we will try again the following day, Thursday, September 14
