Keeping Over 45 Miles of Local Roads Clean

The Road Warriors are a group of McCormick County residents largely from Savannah Lakes Village. The cadre of Road Warriors consists of 80-90 individuals. All Warriors are committed during the third week of each month to clean their respective zone. Each individual or team takes about an hour to collect a section. They often stop for breakfast before or after volunteering.

The efforts of our Road Warriors make a tremendous difference in the appearance of roads in McCormick County. It all started eleven years ago when 12 individuals decided to start the program and collect 4 miles of county roads. The program has now grown to 80-90 people collecting 46 miles of roads each month. At the completion of the eleventh year, the statistics for just the past year was estimated at 13.75 tons of trash collected over 556 miles by 102 individuals. This effort included several areas of McCormick County.  The Town Warriors have been added this year and they clean up roads within the town of McCormick.

The Road Warriors were again selected as the Adopt-A-Highway group of the year for McCormick County.  The Road Warriors have also been the recipients of a grant from the Palmetto Pride arm of the South Carolina Department of Transportation for several years.
The Road Warriors are a part of the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) Adopt-a- Highway program. Their support of bags, vests and trash bag pickup is a big help Shannon Agner is the Adopt-A-Highway co-coordinator for McCormick County.
