Land Aerobics
Instructors: Paula LeMond & Nancy Gaffney – Monday, Wednesday, Friday – 9 – 10 a.m.
If aging means inability to do things, then you don't have to age! The National Institute on Aging has proven that older people DO NOT lose their ability to do things because of aging! One of the major reasons it happens is that they become inactive. This mindset has led to poor health and disabilities for millions of Americans. In reality, there are few health reasons that should keep older adults from exercising, no matter their age.
The longest, on-going study on the benefits of regular exercise in the U.S. is at. The Adult Exercise Research Program at Univ. Nevada at Las Vegas accepts women participants between the ages of 30 and 60. The findings? Regular exercise participants can still do at 60 same exercises as the 30 year olds. With regular exercise:
- Strength doesn't change – you will lose very little muscle.
- Flexibility does not decrease with age.
- No change in stamina.
This study has proven that the aerobic fitness measures were developed by our society, not our bodies.
Our Land Aerobics classes have been designed to include all four recommendations - aerobics, strength, stretching and balance. Class begins with a short warm up, then moves to endurance exercises -- exercises which increase your breathing and heart rate. This improves the health of your heart, lungs and circulatory systems. This means more stamina for climbing stairs, grocery shopping, and golfing.
We also include strength exercises to build your muscles. Strength exercises increase your metabolism (improving blood sugar and weight).
We also include balance exercises to help prevent falls, and flexibility exercises – stretching – to help keep your body limber and flexible.
Drop-in! Try it! You are welcome to work at own pace - do your own thing! And above all else --- Plan to have some fun while you burn those calories and inches!

Our Sumba program fuses Latin rhythms with easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program. Our goal is simple: We want you to want to work out and to love working out. Class participants achieve long-term aerobic benefits while experiencing an exciting, forty-five minute class of calorie-burning, body-energizing, awe-inspiring movements meant to engage and captivate!
The routines feature fast and slow Latin rhythms that help tone and sculpt your body while burning fat, even that stubborn belly fat that everyone is talking about. Come and give it a try. Why? Because it's the best party around.
